As of April 2026, the Pink Line Metro is in its final stage before opening.

The 7.5 km elevated section from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is expected to start in May 2026. This part is currently going through final safety checks and speed trials under the railway safety team. Once opened, it will give big relief to Bannerghatta Road commuters by helping them avoid heavy traffic areas like Dairy Circle. The full line of 21.25 km, which will go up to Nagawara, is expected to be fully ready by December 2026. This first launch in May will be a major change for South Bengaluru, reducing travel time to the city center to around 25 minutes and also improving property value and investment growth in nearby areas.

What is the Pink Line Metro?

The Pink Line Metro (also called Reach 6) of Namma Metro is a 21.25 km-long route that connects South Bengaluru to North Bengaluru. It starts from Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere area on Bannerghatta Road) and goes all the way to Nagawara. This line has both elevated and underground sections. About 7.5 km is elevated, covering six stations along the Bannerghatta Road side. The remaining 13.8 km runs underground, passing through busy city areas like MG Road, Shivajinagar, and Cantonment. Once fully ready, the Pink Line will become a major north–south travel route in Bengaluru. It will connect with the Yellow Line at Jayadeva Hospital and the Blue Line at Nagawara, making travel much easier across the city.

Current Construction Status of Line Metro in 2026

By April 2026, most of the Pink Line Metro construction will be complete, and train testing will have started. The line will open in two parts — first, the elevated section on Bannerghatta Road, and later, the underground section will open after that in the same year.

Phase 1: Elevated Section (Bannerghatta Road)

The 7.5 km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is almost fully ready. Recently, the RDSO team (rail safety authority) started important safety and testing checks at the Kothanur depot.

Earlier, there was hope for a May 2026 launch, but now officials expect the opening may move to July 2026, as final approvals from RDSO and CMRS (Metro safety authority) are still needed. Most of the main construction work is fully complete, including tracks and flyovers. Now the focus is on station finishing work, cleaning, and installing ticket gates (AFC gates).

Phase 2: Underground Section (Dairy Circle to Nagawara)

The 13.8 km underground section is now in the final work stage. The tunneling (digging) is fully done. Inside the stations, workers are now fixing important systems like air ventilation, electric systems, and fire safety pipes. They are also installing Platform Screen Doors, which are safety doors on the platform. These have already been successfully tested at MG Road station. This underground part is expected to be fully ready by December 2026, which will complete the full South to North Bengaluru metro connection.

Rolling Stock & Depot Status

The Kothanur Metro Depot, which will handle train maintenance, is about 80% ready. The company BEML has already delivered the first five driverless metro trains, which are currently being used for testing runs. These trains are an important step for the future high-frequency metro service, which will run once the full line becomes operational.

Operational Status: What is Running Now?

As of late April 2026, the Pink Line Metro is not open for passengers yet. The full line is still in the testing and trial stage.

  • Elevated Section (Bannerghatta Road): This portion is fully constructed, but the thing is, it is not open for passengers yet. On April 28, 2026, official safety tests (RDSO trials) started. These tests check train speed and safety systems and will continue until mid-May. If all tests are approved, this section from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere may open for the public by May or June 2026.
  • Underground Section: This part is still under internal work and system fitting. It is not ready for travel yet. It is expected to open later, around December 2026.
  • What is Running Nearby? While the Pink Line is still not open, other metro lines in Bengaluru are fully working, including the Namma Metro Yellow Line, Purple Line, and Green Line. These lines are helping people travel across the city until the Pink Line is ready.

Key Benefits of the Pink Line Metro

The Pink Line Metro is set to be a big change for Bengaluru by improving one of the city’s biggest problems — north to south travel. Here are the main benefits in 2026:

  • Beating the Traffic: This metro will help people avoid heavy traffic areas like Bannerghatta Road, Dairy Circle, and Jayadeva Flyover. Once the elevated section opens in May 2026, the travel time from Kalena Agrahara to the city center will drop from over 1 hour to just 20–25 minutes.
  • Easy Connections: The Pink Line Metro is made for easy travel between different metro lines. At Jayadeva Hospital, people can change to the Yellow Line to go to Electronic City. At MG Road, they can switch to the Purple Line to reach Whitefield.
  • By the end of 2026, it will also connect to the Blue Line at Nagawara, which will give direct metro access to the airport.to the Blue Line at Nagawara, giving access towards the airport.
  • Rise in Property Value: Areas along Bannerghatta Road are already seeing a 20–40% increase in property prices. With the metro opening, places like Hulimavu and Gottigere are expected to get more buyers and higher rent income, making it good for investment.
  • Modern & Safe Travel: The Pink Line will use modern driverless trains with frequent service. Underground stations will have Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) for better safety and to help keep stations cooler and more energy-efficient.

Impact of Pink Line Metro on Real Estate and Property Prices

The Pink Line Metro has helped property prices increase a lot in the Bannerghatta Road area. In the last few years, prices have gone up by about 40%. As of April 2026, homes cost around ₹13,500 to ₹14,500 per sq. ft. Prices are even higher near metro stations like Kalena Agrahara and Hulimavu. People are also getting good rent income, around 3%, and this may increase after the metro opens in May 2026. Because of the metro, this area is becoming a popular place to live and invest.
