By April 2026, most of the Pink Line Metro construction will be complete, and train testing will have started. The line will open in two parts — first, the elevated section on Bannerghatta Road, and later, the underground section will open after that in the same year.
Phase 1: Elevated Section (Bannerghatta Road)
The 7.5 km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is almost fully ready. Recently, the RDSO team (rail safety authority) started important safety and testing checks at the Kothanur depot.
Earlier, there was hope for a May 2026 launch, but now officials expect the opening may move to July 2026, as final approvals from RDSO and CMRS (Metro safety authority) are still needed. Most of the main construction work is fully complete, including tracks and flyovers. Now the focus is on station finishing work, cleaning, and installing ticket gates (AFC gates).
Phase 2: Underground Section (Dairy Circle to Nagawara)
The 13.8 km underground section is now in the final work stage. The tunneling (digging) is fully done. Inside the stations, workers are now fixing important systems like air ventilation, electric systems, and fire safety pipes. They are also installing Platform Screen Doors, which are safety doors on the platform. These have already been successfully tested at MG Road station. This underground part is expected to be fully ready by December 2026, which will complete the full South to North Bengaluru metro connection.
Rolling Stock & Depot Status
The Kothanur Metro Depot, which will handle train maintenance, is about 80% ready. The company BEML has already delivered the first five driverless metro trains, which are currently being used for testing runs. These trains are an important step for the future high-frequency metro service, which will run once the full line becomes operational.
